Gustav R. Olson
Gustav Olson was born August 10, 1904, the youngest child to Peter F. and Inga (Paulson) Olson near Toronto, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Gustav attended school in Toronto. He played football, being the center.
He moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1926 and attended Luther College. He also played football there.
Gustav Olson and Tillie Johnson were married on October 6, 1928 at Morris, Illinois.
He worked for John Morrell & Co in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for 42 years, starting in 1927. He started in Accounting, then moved to the Credit Department where he was assistant manager then the manager. He retired at 69 years of age.
Gustav was also active in First Lutheran Church and was assistant Superintendent of their large Sunday School for years. He enjoyed playing golf and after his retirement he played 3 -4 times a week up to a week before he died on September 29, 1977.
Memorial services were held October 3, 1977 at 2:00 P.M. at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Rev. Dennis Griffin Officiated. The Organist was Mrs. Marie Bresse. The Soloist was Miss. Julie Neufield.
Casket bearers were: M.E. Wear Keith Paisly E.T. Hansen Don Edgecomb m Earl DeVault Warren Vickery.
The Service of Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Almost 1500 people attended the service.
Gustav is survived by his wife Tillie; one son Dr. Ross G. Olson, New Port Richey, Florida; one granddaughter Tonja Olson; one sister Mrs. Joseph Gravning; three brothers Oscar B. Olson, Gary, South Dakota; Lawrence Olson, Toronto, South Dakota, Palmer Olson, Ellsworth, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by one son Bruce Robert Olson and one sister Florence Olson
