Palmer Olson

Palmer "Pat" Olson was born on April 10, 1897 at Toronto, South Dakota, the son of Peter and Ingebord Olson. He grew up at Toronto, graduated from high school there and later attended Mankato Business College. In his youth, Pat traveled through the country working at various occupations. During World War I he served his country in the U.S. army with the Balloon Warfare Unit in France. Then in the early 1920's he moved to Ellsworth, Minnesota where he worked as a building contractor, retiring in 1976. In 1929 he was united in Marriage to Viola Arenson at Ellsworth. She died in 1944. In 1955 he married Minnie Korf and they lived in Ellsworth until her death in 1970. On December 25, 1971 he was married to Ethal Wald at Ellsworth. After her death in 1979 Pat continued to make his home in Ellsworth, Minnesota. He was a charter member of both the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 175 at Adrain, Minnesota and Gilbert Larson Post No. 196 American Legion at Ellsworth, of which he was the last surviving World War I veteran in its membership. Last Tuesday Pat died unexpectedly at his home at the age of ninety-two years.
Surviving are his step-children, Ann Lea, Mrs Dean Niedert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Eugene "Corky" Wald of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; one brother Oscar B. Olson of Hendricks, Minnesota,two nieces and two nephews.
