Notice in the newspaper...Mr. Eugene Herbert Whitney and Miss Ruth E. Green were married at the home of the brides' father Mr. A.W. Green at Clear Lake, Iowa on Wednesday eve. Ruth is the youngest of a family of four daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney will make their home at Mason City where Mr. Whitney is a contractor.Death
GENE WHITNEY DIES AT LAKEEarly Settler of Lake Is Survivved by Nine Children
CLEAR LAKE, Jan 24 -- Eugene Whitney, Sr. aged 66, 617 North Second Street, died at his home Friday night following a 10 days' illness suffering from the flu. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Friday morning, dying at 8:30 o'clock in the evening without regaining consciouness.
Mr. Whitney lived most of his life in Clear Lake, following the carpenter trade. He served in the Spanish-American War and played drums in the local drum corps of the Spanish-American and Sons of Veterans. He was also a member of the state G. A. R. drum corps.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Eugene Jr., of Omaha; Alonzo and Charles, Pontiac, Mich; and Jack at home; and five daughters, Mrs. Harland Hamm, Mason City; Mrs. Donn White, Pontiac, Mich; Ruth Whitney, Cherrie Whitney and Juliet Whitney, all at home. A daughter, Mrs. Dean Ellsworth, preceeded him in death a year ago. A granddaughter, Maxie Jean, also makes her home with the Whitneys. He is also survived by a brother, Rudolph Whitney, Ft. Collins, Colo.
The eldest son, Gene, of Omaha arrived at 5 o'clock Friday to be with his father. Others in the family are expected to arrive for the services which will probably be held Monday.
