Notes
Death
DEATH OF MR. WHITNEY----Myron Whitney died at his home in Dresden, Deep River Township, Friday morning, December 29th,1889, of Brights Disease, aged 62 years, 9 months, 10 days.
He came to this country in 1856 from Rutland, Vermont and started a store in Dresden. He was an upright Christian man and had the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. The funeral took place Sunday, conducted by Rev. Colier and Palmer. A large number of his friends and neighbors were present to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed.
He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss.
Myron died without a will. Rosina declined to act as administrator of his estate. She requested that his son, Evan, be appointed administrator. The contents of the probate papers show that Myron was fairly well to do, but also had some debts. He had a total estate of about $11,000 before everything was finally settled.
Rosina was appointed guardian of the three minor children after Myron died. Her brother, Reuben was bound as a surety in the transaction with a bond of $15,000. When Rosina made a statement before a Justice that she would discharge all of her duties as guardian according to the law and to the best of her ability, the Justice of the Peace witnessing the signing was her brother, C. D. Breniman.
