Individual Details

Bertha Annah BRENIMAN

(12 Sep 1868 - 8 Oct 1952)

Bertha graduated from Iowa Grinnell College, taught school for over 20 years, proved up on a homestead in Wyoming, retired from teaching and traveled for a year, chose New York City to spend the last years of her life - died in Rochester Hospital due to hardening of the lining of the intestines from drinking New York water which flows down from the mountains.....written by her sister, Virginia.
Her will, from Surrogates Court, New York County (NY?) dated May 1925 is very interesting. She states her residence as Newcastle, Wyoming. The only family members she left anything to were her uncles John Breniman and Gottlieb Breniman. Article #6 of her will states "My experience with my relatives other than the uncles named in this will has been so unpleasant that I do not wish any one of them to receive any of my property or act as executors of my estate".

Brooklyn Chronicle, 01 April 1887
Miss Bertha Brenniman will teach in Madison this summer.
