Carolina Virginia "Callie" "Virginia" BRENIMAN

Virginia did not marry, was needed in the home until her mother passed away. She then graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College. She worked in a bank, then cared for her father until he died. She also cared for her sister, Marie, until she died.
Virgie, as she was well known, wrote many articles about the Breniman family, which I have copies of. She wrote this about herself...."And may I add, Virginia was needed in the home until after Mother passed away. She then attended and graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College. Her first position out of Business College was in the Cedar Rapids State Bank, later when the State Bank consolidated with the Peoples Bank at Cedar Rapids she was relieving the cashier at his lunch hour or whenever he was out on business. She then went to the Oakdale Sanatorium where she was assistant to the Steward of the Hospital - she had charge of the payroll which amounted to thousands of dollars each month; issued each days supplies - from a lead pencil to a threshing machine and OK'ed all purchases - one day a team of mules. After a few short years she was called home to help care for Father. Then she remained to be with Marie during her last sickness. At the time Marie passed away they had passed a law that no one could work after they had reached the age of 65 years. She was too near that age to get a job even in a 10@ store. She knows - she tried it."
