"Benjamin Greer, sixth son of William and Ann (Fitch) Greer, was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, also removed to Virginia, where his name appears as: "Benjamin Greer, from George II, 90 acres of land, 0-10-0, on Gill's Creek in Bedford County, Virginia, in joint ownership with John Greer, February 14, 1761." (COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA LAND PATENTS, by Nugent, P.B. #34, folio 884.) Benjamin Greer took Oath of Fidelity in Franklin County, Virginia, in 1777. This county was erected from parts of Bedford, Pittsylvania and Henry Counties. Mr. Sylvester Greer, of Dixiana, Alabama, wrote, November 23, 1940: "Benjamin Greer, of Franklin County, left a will in 1789. He married twice. By his second wife, Mary, he left a son: Benjamin Greer, Jr. "Benjamin Greer, of Bedford County, Virginia, and Mary, his wife, convey to Richard Ballard, Sr., of the same, for 105 pounds current money, 90 acres of land in Bedford County, lying on both sides of Gill's Creek: Witnesses, John Starkey, Thomas Preston and Mijah Ballard.
