"John Greer, also spelled Griere, was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, 1736/1737. Nothing has been found concerning him, outside of records to be quoted: "John Greir, with Acauilla and Joseph, from George II, 50 acres on Grassey Hill, next to David Griffith, in Halifax County, Virginia, December 15, 1757. (PATENT OFFICE, P.B. #34, page 204)." "John Greer, with Aquilla Greer, from George II, 90 acres on Gill's Creek, in Bedford County, Virginia. February 14, 1761. (IBID. P.B. #34, page 844.)" "John Griere, from George II, 325 acres on Backwater River, in Lunenburg County, Virginia, being land next to Joseph Greer, August 20, 1760. (IBID. P.B. #33, page 846.)" John Greer and his wife, Ann, convey to their son, Aquilla, the one half of the 325 acres on Backwater River, and to their son, Benjamin Greer, the other half of said 325 acres. No date. It may be assumed that they had children, two: Aquilla Greer and Benjamin Greer."
