"Shadrack Greer, the third son of William and Ann (Fitch) Greer, was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, circa 1728 - 1735. He is said to have joined the British Army, but nothing definite has been found by compiler. The following references containing his name may possibly apply: COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA LAND PATENTS AND LAND GRANTS, IN LAND OFFICE, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, by Nell M. Nugent: "Shadrack Greer, from Robert Brooke, 72 acres of land on the North Fork of Wilson Creek, waters of New River, in Grayson County, issued January 25, 1782; surveyed March 26, 1783; granted March 9, 1797. L.O.T., WT. #10719, Book 37, folio 42." "Shadrack Greer, bought from Henry Lee, 142 acres of land on Fox Creek, a branch of New River in Montgomery County, Virginia; issued November 26, 1781; surveyed March 25, 1783; granted March 25, 1793. L.O.T., WT #3371, Book 27, folio 637." In Enoch Osborn's Company of Militia, in 1781, were the names of Hughey Greer and Thomas Greer. In the Elk District, Montgomery County, Virginia, September 6, 1782, was the name of Neathon Greer. (Virginia Magazine, Vol. XLVII, page 33.)
