Aquilla Greer

"Aquilla (Greer), born [christened?] 29 July 1737 in Baltimore County, Maryland at St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church." (OUR GREER FAMILY HISTORY, 1983, by Thomas H. Greer, 335 Miramontes Avenue, Half Moon Bay, California 94019, page 62.)

"Aquilla Greer, first son of John and Ann Greer, was born in Baltimore County, Maryland 29 July 1737. He moved with his parents to Lunenburg County, Virginia in 1750. He married Hannah ______ in 1763. He moved to Surry County, North Carolina where he paid Poll Tax in 1771. He was on a Wilkes County (formerly Surry County) census in 1787. He aided in the Revolutionary War in North Carolina. He fought Indians and was severely wounded in the shoulder and mouth by a rifle shot causing him to lose several teeth. He lived to be 92 (actually 95) years old. He moved to South Carolina about 1789 and was on the U. S. census in Pendleton District, in 1790 and 1800. He moved to Warren County, Kentucky and paid taxes there in 1812. His will was made in 1822 in Warren County, Kentucky, but probated in Edmonson County, Kentucky in 1832. He had ten children. The first 2 or 3 children were born in Virginia and the rest in North Carolina except John who was born in South Carolina." (GREER FAMILY HISTORY, by Mrs. Ellen A. It appears to be a part of a collection of families, as it appears on pages 78 to 82.)

"Aquilla served in the American Revolution. He moved from Maryland to Virginia, into both Carolinas, and finally into Kentucky." (Information on the descendants of Aquilla Greer from Ann Farnsworth, Rt. 2, Box 66, Buffalo, TX 75831 as per GREER KINSMEN by J. B. Bell, 1986, pages 33-35.)

"Aquilla Greer, the first son of John and Nancy Ann Walker Greer, was born in Maryland in 1740. He moved with his parents to Lunenburg County, Va. in 1750. He married Hannah ______ in 1763. He moved to Surry Co., N. C. where he paid Poll Tax in 1771. He was on a Wilkes County (formerly Surry County) census in 1787. He aided in the Revolutionary War in N. C. . . . He moved to S. C. about 1789 and was on the U. S. Census in Pendleton District, in 1790 and 1800 ["Head of families-South Carolina" GPO 1908 Ninety-Six District, Pendleton County lists an Equilla Greer 2,4,2,-,5. Next to Equilla was Solomon Greer 2,-,4,-1. There was a James Greer also living close by 2,1,4,-, 1. This was the 1790 Census. J. G.]. He moved to Warren Co., Ky. and paid taxes there in 1812. His will was made in 1822 in Warren Co., Ky., but probated in Edmonson Co., Ky., in 1832. He had 10 Children." (Virginia Greer Gambrel from Mrs. Ellen A. Fawcett of N. Little Rock, Ark.)
