John Greer
(Abt, 1741 - Bef September 21, 1803)
"John (Greer), Jr., probably born before 1750, is listed in Wilkes County on the Census of 1787, apparently with a wife, 4 sons and 4 daughters. Before the 1790 Census he moved into Tennessee, where he was one of the very early settlers of the Nashville area (Davidson County). His estate was administered there on 21 September 1803. One of his sons was probably Berry Greer, purchaser at the sale of the estate." (OUR GREER FAMILY HISTORY, 1983, by Thomas H. Greer, 335 Miramontes Avenue, Half Moon Bay, California 94019, page 51.)
"John Greer moved to South Carolina about 1789." (GREER FAMILY HISTORY, by Mrs. Ellen A. Fawcett, North Little Rock Arkansas. This was recieved by Frances Gosney Hoover, 5815 Gladstone Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64123-1517 in 1981, who in turn sent it to Ralph Terry in 1995. It appears to be a part of a collection of families, as it appears on pages 78 to 82.)
In ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE GREER, by Carolyn Beal, page 174, Myrtle Greer Johnson, 705 Orchard Road, Bel Air, Maryland 21014, is trying to identify the father of John Greer who married Elizabeth Barton, 25 August 1763 in St. John's Parish, Baltimore, Maryland. Thinks perhaps they were the parents of Catherine, Moses, Aquilla and John IV who she feels was born 21 June 1770.
