"Smith Greer was born in North Carolina in 1786 and moved to Edmonson County, Kentucky." (GREER FAMILY HISTORY, by Mrs. Ellen A. Fawcett, North Little Rock Arkansas. This was received by Frances Gosney Hoover, 5815 Gladstone Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri 64123-1517 in 1981, who in turn sent it to Ralph Terry in 1995. It appears to be a part of a collection of families, as it appears on pages 78 to 82.)
"One of the sources for the date of the birth of Smith Greer and also the birth of his children is REVOLUTION WAR PENSION 7 BIBLE RECORDS OF JOEL HAMPTON OF North Carolina and Kentucky, provided by Loretta B. Bingam, 384 N 20th St., Battle Creek, Michigan. Record taken from Revolutionary War Pensions of Hannah Hampton, widow of Joel Hampton." (Roy Eaton, 1996.)
"There was a Smith Greer born 1811 in Kentucky, living in Mississippi. The Mississippi Smith had children who had several of the family names found in the older Smith Greer's line: Solomon, Amos etc. I've researched in other Greer lines in Kentucky and I have not found any of these individual names. Since the younger Smith Greer was born in Kentucky and since the dates would be right it seems possible he is the son of the Smith Greer from Edmonson County, Kentucky or the son of one of his brothers who also lived in Kentucky. The information I have on their children does not match up. The younger Smith could have been the son of the older Smith's brother Amos or John. Or the younger Smith could have been the son of Solomon and Hannah Lowe Greer. Solomon's grand father was Aquilla Greer.
