Individual Details
Donnie Inez Newman
(November 16, 1862 - July 5, 1947)
1900 census: Clark County, Arkansas.
Other information from the Bible records and personal knowledge of Agnes (Phelps) Hammonds.
NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: On Donnie Inez's tombstone is engraved, "Mother, The reason for having this angel engraved on your monument is that the last time I saw you, you were standing on the porch waving good-by. I would give all of tomorrow for that moment again. With love, Bill (picture of angel)." According to those present at the time Bill left home, Bill was actually swearing at her as he left. It appears he had a guilty conscience later. Another thing that happened at her death, was that Bill tossed everything (pictures, letters, etc) in the yard and burned it, before anyone had a chance to look at anything. In later life, Bill became quite wealthy, making his money in electric motor sales and work. He called me a couple of times in later life. It appears that he lied about his age earlier in life, and was trying to verify an earlier birth date to collect social security. He must have been a lonely old man.)
