Birth date from the 1854 Bible of Johnathan Newman. This differs from his tombstone, which gives the birth year as 1863. Donnie Inez was born in November 1862, so the birth year of Lycurgus had to be 1864.

"Last rites for L. C. Newman, age 79 years, were held 10 a.m. Saturday from Many Nazarene church. Rev. W. V. Neil officiated. Massingill funeral home in charge. Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Lingo of Cameron, Arkansas, Mrs. Grant Lewing of Many; son, Roy Newman of Florien; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren."
