"Clabe Baker Greear attended common school at Wittens Mills, Virginia; grade school at Oak Hill Academy in Grayson County, Virginia about 1896; and the University of Iowa from September 1898 until he graduated in 1902. During this time at the University he made up a year of Latin, Algebra to Quadratics and Plane Geometry under private instructors because he had not had them before. Summers he worked on farms in Iowas, Illinois, and Minnesota to help earn his way through school. During the term he fired funaces and batched to get himself through the University. After he graduated, he practiced medicine in Burt, Iowa about a year then moved to Honaker, Virginia, where he is at present living (December 1947). During these years at Honaker, he attended three post-graduate courses. He took General Medicine in 1914 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Chicago, Illinois., studied the eye only at Rush Medical at Chicago, Illinois in 1917 and studied eye, nose and throat at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana in 1923. During Would War I, he volunteered for service, but was not accepted because of deafness following a double mastoid operation. He served as a member of Medical Reserve Corps during that war, as present of Russell County, Virginia Medical Society for a number of years, and is a lifetime member of the Virginia State Medical Society. He was Health Officer for New Garden District, Russell County, Virginia for a number of years. He had heart problems later in life." (Lois Temple FGS 413.)
