Individual Details
Charlotte Frances Templer
(2 Jun 1789 - 22 Apr 1875)
Charlotte was married twice. Once on 3 February 1811 when she was 22to Richard Dalling Dunn, Captain R.N., and later to Charles Dyke Acland, also believed to have been a Captain in the Royal Navy.
According to my notes Charlotte F was baptised on 22 Sep 1789 at Teigngrace, and married Richard Dalling Dunn (Capt RN) on 4 Feb 1811 at Teigngrace. (I think Capt Dunn was fighting the French off Jamaica in 1807, but I will check on that). We know his death from the monument (also the Taunton Courier). She then married Charles Richard Dyke Acland Capt RN on 1 July 1819 (8th?) at Ashburton. He died on anti-slavery duties off (or possibly in?) Simondstown, South Africa, of Blackwater Fever, 23 Apr 1828.
Charlotte died 22 Apr 1875 at Kingston, Surrey, (aged 85, probably at her son's house in Seething Wells).
Charles Richard Dyke Acland was born 4 Aug 1793 and was baptised 13 Aug 1793.
Charlotte and Richard Dunn named their son Richard Duckworth Dunn after Admiral Sir J T Duckwoth. Capt Dunn was Flag Captain to Admiral Duckworth for many years.
Also John Thomas Duckworth (1st baronet, Adm RN) was married to Mary Buller's cousin Susannah Catherine Buller. Mary and Susannah were granddaughters of the famous Bishop Trelawny of Pelynt Cornwall, who was imprisoned in the Tower of London by the King.
Richard Duckworth Dunn was a Capt in the 2nd Dragoon Guards (the Queen's Bays)
Isabella Pallmer Massy-Dawson was born 18 Jan 1812 (probably at Ballinacourte, Tipperary) and died 19 Jan 1860 at Kingston Surrey (probably Seething Wells).
She was the daughter of James Hewitt Massy-Dawson MP of Ballinacourte and Eliza Jane Dennis (the wealthy heiress of a Jamaica plantation owner). Charlotte outlived her daughter-in-law by 15 years. Richard and Isabella had two daughters Mary Charlotte and Isabella Adelaide. Amongst their many descendants are Ralph John Assheton (2nd Baron Clitheroe), the Hon Bridget Assheton wife of Marcus Worsley MP (Bart.) and Sir Peter Allix Wilkinson Lt. Col. of SOE fame in WW2
It is very noticeable that the monument to Richard Dalling Dunn makes no mention at all of a wife or child, or a cause of death.
I think there is something to be discovered here. At the time of his death he commanded HMS Dublin. I know of at least seven ships he commanded, one of 120 guns.
