Mary Eliza JONES
(25 Jul 1883 - 21 Feb 1964)
Obituary in the Republican and Stockton Journal on March 5, 1964.
"Mrs. Sam Fidler
Mary Liza Jones, daughter of Charles T. and Mary M. Jones, was born in Polk County, July 25, 1883 and passed away February 21, 1964 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home near Bolivar, being at the time of her death 80 years, 6 months and 27 days.
She was married to Samuel T. Fidler July 30, 1905. They established their home in Cedar county near Stockton, where they spent their entire married life of almost 60 years. To this union were born seven children: Velma Council, Richmond, Calif., Shelby of Stockton (who preceded her in death February 6, 1945) Wilma Jones of Tulare, Calif., Paul of Tulare, Calif., Joe and Bernard of Fair Play and one daughter who passed away in infancy. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bill Council, April 3rd, 1950 and a daughter-in-law, Lucy Fox, March 30, 1959. Surviving in addition to her companion and children are 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 daughters-in-law, Emma Jean, Ruby Dean and Dorothy and one son-in-law, Lawrence Jones.
She professed faith in Christ over 30 years in a revival meeting at the Oak Grove Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Fletch Davis of Aldrich.
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from hence forth; Yea Saith the spirit that they may rest from their labours and their works do follow them.
She was a faithful companion, a loving mother, and grandmother, a good neighbor of which no higher tribute can be paid and will be sadly missed by her many friends and loved ones.
There's an open gate at the end of the road, Through which each must go alone and there is a light we cannot see our father claims his own. Beyond the gate your loved one finds happiness and rest and there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, with the Rev. Lewis Mead officiating in the Lindley Prairie Church with burial in the church cemetery under direction of Pitts Funeral Home of Bolivar. Pallbearers were: Frank Wallen, Ralph Tindle, Billy Chism, Finis Fox, Lester Cockrell, Pud Wright."
