Elizabeth Hardin, likely the divorced wife of Mark, is found on the Prince William County Rent Rolls in 1753, 1754, and 1760.

In Nov 1753, Elizabeth sued Mark for alimony in the Prince William Courts. In 1757-58, she sued his brother John for property in John's hands in Frederick Co which belonged to Mark, Mark having left the county. Quite possibly this is the land left to Mark by his father's will.

Prince William Co Court - 27 Nov 1753. Betty [nickname for Elizabeth] Hardin sued Mark Hardin for his alimony.

After the divorce, no one has satisfactorily proved what happeed to this Mark - did he marry again?

An entry about the Hardin family, with numerous errors and no stated relationships of many of the cited Hardin names, p. 164 of Forks of Elkhorn Church, 1946; reprinted with additions and corrections, 1980, contains the following:. "Mark Hardin (brother of Martin Sr.) m. Elizabeth Ashby (dau Capt. Thomas of Frederick Co, VA) and three of their sons were:
1. Benjamin m. Nancy Routt , Fauquier Co, VA, 1785. They went to Kentucky and were ancestors of Bayless Hardin, of Frankfort
2. Evangelist, with a family of twelve, Franklin Co 1810, including Sarah Lindsay and Elizabeth Kelly
3. Enos (Ennis) m. Elizabeth Guthrie. They came from Clark and with others of the family, settled in Henry and in the part of Franklin that is now Owen Co.
NOTE: this article contains no source citations. No proof of relationships. However Evangelist is found with the following Mark Hardin who cannot be the same Mark found living near Henry Hardin in Pittsylvania co, VA

The children here are speculative as no proof has been found, nor is there any further record of Mark. Is he the Mark Hardin found living next to Henry Hardin in Pittsylvania Co in the 1770's? That Mark Hardin's wife there is listed as Hannah in a deed in 1785. Henry also had a son named Mark who married a Mary and a Martha but apparently never had a wife Hannah. And Mark may have had a son Mark, as well.

I have also seen that Sinclair Hardin, supposed to be a nephew of Capt. William "Indian Bill" Hardin, was a son of Mark and Elizabeth Ashby. I have seen no proof.

7 Dec 1774. PB 42, p.867 400 acres, branches of Sweetings Fork, adj Theophilus Lacy, Kennan's corner, his own line. Matches his survey of 1769.

[Notice that this Mark Hardin is married to a Hannah. The Hardin databases show Mark Hardin, son of Henry & Judith Lynch as married to a Mary and then a Martha, no Hannah. Mark Hardin, brother to Henry, divorced Elizabeth Ashby and disappeared from the records in Prince William County, Virginia.]

Still another Mark Hardin with no known famiy....
There is a will of a Mark Hardin in Randolph Co North Carolina which seems unlikely to be this man. I have seen it attributed to Mark Hardin who married a Hannah Holder. It is dated 28 Jul 1795 and was ordered recorded at the Randolph County Court May Term 1797. He did not mention his wife by name in the transcript online but he gave her bequests and appoint her executrix. He named daughters Anne, Setha, Susannah, Winifred, Letty, and Mary. He named a son Mark. Samuel York and Eli York were executors along with the wife. Not in the will, but Eli York was listed as the husband of the daughter Susannah. Son Mark said to have married Sarah York.
In 1850 in Randolph Co NC census, I did find Mark Harden, age 63, with wife Sarah age 65. He would have been only about age 10 at the time of his father's death in 1797, so I doubt that this Mark who died in 1797 in Randolph Co could have been the Mark who was divorced from Elizabeth Ashby in 1754.
The 1790, Randolph Co NC census does have a Mark and a Robert Hardin as heads of household.
