Joseph Holtzclaw

(Abt 1735 - 1786)



Henry, Joseph, and Mary Holtzclaw were granted land in Culpeper Co in 1753, as children of John Holtzclaw. Northern Neck Grant Book H, p.251.

Joseph served in Capt. William Edmunds' Company in 1761 in the French & Indian War. He and his wife were members of Carters Run Baptist Church in Fauquier Co. VA

Caty Holtzclaw was paid for supplies furnished the troops in the Revolutionary War. Joseph married Caty or Catherine, James about 1761. She was appointed administratrix of his estate at the March Court, 1786, Fauquier Co. At the October court, she was appointed guardian of the orphans, Archibald, Betsy, Stephen, Eli, Aggy, Franky, and Sally Holtzclaw. There was another child, perhaps born after Joseph's death, Caty Holtzclaw - Caty gave consent for her daughter of the same name to marry Joseph Lawler, 25 May 1801.
