Individual Details

Elizabeth Holtzclaw

(Abt 1745 - 17 Oct 1818)

Married John Duncan, Jr. of Fauquier County. John was in the Fauquier Co militia in 1761 in the French & Indian War. The family moved to Kentucky.

In 1762, John Duncan and Elizabeth his wife deeded land that had been left to Elizabeth by her father, John Holtzclaw.
June 24, 1762, John Duncan and wife Elizabeth (X) of Hamilton Parish to Samuel Porter of same, L100 current money, 150 acres whereon the said Samuel Porter now lives, bounded…part of tract of land purchased by John Holtzclaw dec’d from Will Bufoelt? [Buford] by the said John Holtzclaw “the above hundred & fifty acres was in his last Will & Testament given to his Daughter Elizabeth now wife of the said John Duncan and party to these presents”. Acknowledged in court on May 24, 1762 [Fauquier Co., VA Deed Bk. 1, p. 329].

I have an autosomal DNA match to Elizabeth's family on AncestryDNA. The posted family tree has what appears to have some errors, but perhaps is correct. He also shows that John Duncan might have been the son of John Duncan and Dinah Bradford who was a granddaughter of John Marr. This could be a second match if true. I have had a second match to another daughter of Elizabeth & John Duncan - daughter Ann who married Charles Morgan (but not all websites have her as a daughter in this family and this may not be correct). And a match to son Branch Duncan, well proved as a son of John Duncan.

Elizabeth is said to be buried Sumpter Cemetery, Floyd Co, VA. The stone pictured can't really be read and the inscription appears to just be scratched on it.
