Individual Details

Josiah Holtzclaw

(Abt 1740 - Bef Jun 1817)

Josiah's place in the family is circumstantial - he was closely associated with the others, and it is evident there were seven children in the family.

A lawsuit in Chancery Court of Fauquier Co VA, 1824, names the heirs of a Josiah Holtzclaw. It does not give the date of his death. Apparently his wife was already deceased as the property is being divided between his seven children. However, the list of children in the Holtzclaw books, includes an 8th child - perhaps a son Benjamin.

Samuel Fisher, Henry C. Dade & Charles Bale had been appointed to sell and divide the estate of Josiah Holtzclaw. On 26 Oct 1818, John & Charles Holtzclaw signed a receipt for all bonds and money received by the Court and assumed administration of the estate.

Some databases state his wife was Susannah Utterbach - however her lineage has obvious problems.
