Ruth Haden

(1729 - )

The following may or may not be the same as the Jacob Farris that married Ruth, but it is an interesting record:
Henrico Co Deed Book 1750-67
p.192 John Spears and James Spears of Albemarle, brothers, to William Garthright. 200 acres on South side Chickahominy River in fork of branch called Bore Swamp adj. Robert Spears and JACOB FARIS and Garthright, land formerly called William Mayes, Richard Truman & Clopton. Land willed to sons by Robert Spears which was purchased of Wm Owl.
Wit: Julius Allin, Robert Spears, Matthew (X) Johnson
Rec 1st Mon Dec 1752

Proof of Ruth's parentage and marriage:
Henrico Co Deed Book 1750-67
pp.681
Mar 6, 1761. Henrico Co VA Anthony Haden of Hanover, deeded to his son-in-law Jacob Ferris and his daughter Ruth Ferris, a negro woman, Aggey and two children Amey and Sarah. Wit: Geo. Clopton and Thomas Haden. Rec. Jun Court 1761.
[This is one of the few references found for a Thomas Haden. Was he perhaps a brother or nephew of Anthony?]

Although the Ancestral File has a date of death for Ruth as 15 Dec 1775, she was certainly living in November of 1787 when she co-signed a deed with Jacob. Jacob's will seems to indicate she was still living in 1812, as he leaves real and personal estate to her. However, Jacob does not give her name and he could have been referring to a subsequent wife.
