I William Britt of the County of Goochland being sound in mind and judgment,
but infirm of body and sensible of the uncertainty of human life do herein
make and Execute this my Last Will and Testament - Impremise. I give &
bequeath to my wife Hannah Britt during her life or Widowhood one hundred
acres of land being that part of the tract purchased of John Page, Sen. Which
lies on the West side of the Creek including the Dwelling and office houses
now in my ---- and in the event of her Death or marriage the said land to fall
to my son William Britt. Impremise. I give & bequeath to my son John Britt one
hundred and twenty five acres of land part of the tract of land purchased of
Neil Campbell agent for Messrs. George Keppen and Compy. of Glassgow Merchants
lying in Rock Castle Neck and bounded by the lines of Thomas Bolling and
Thomas Randolph, Esqr. Benjamin Clopton, Mesach Hix and John Philpote the part
here meant being that corner lying between the lines of Thos Bolling and
Mesach Hix - Impremise. I give & bequeath to my son Obed Britt the Remainder
part of aforesaid tract of land in Rock Castle Neck supposed to consist of
four hundred acres - Impremise. I give and bequeath to my son William Britt
the Tract of Land whereon I now live being the tract I purchased of John Page,
Senr. and lying on one of the branches of Licking Hole Creek consisting of two
hundred and fifty acres more or less but with this reserve my wife Hannah
Britt to possess and enjoy one hundred acres thereof as aforesaid during her
natural life or widowhood I also give & bequeath to him, the said William
Britt one other tract of land containing one hundred acres more or less lying
in the fork of Bryd Creek and bounded by the lands of Colo Robert Lewis, Colo
John Hopkins, and Bryant Connely, Impremise I lend unto my beloved wife
Hannah Britt two choice negroes during her life or widowhood also a beast and
saddle tow (sic two) cows and calves also a proportionate part of the hogs, a
feather bed & furniture and a proportion of what other household furniture may
be necessary and at her death or marriage to be equally divided amongst my
three sons, To wit John, Obed, & William Britt
- Impremise I give to my son
John Britt my Negro Boy Jacob. Impremise I give to my son Obed Britt my Negroe
boy Sam. Impremise I give to my son William Britt my negroe Fellow Cooper.
Impremise I give to my daughter Jenny Mitchell, Easter. Impremise I give to my
daughter Elizabeth Christian my Negroe Girl Molly. The former gifts I have
made to my Daughters Mary Wilkerson and Hannah Longmire I do hereby ratify and
confirm. Impremise. My Wife's choice as aforesaid in Negroes is a negroe
houseboy (?) by the name of Abraham and a negroe woman named Lucy - Impremis
My will and desire is that the remainder of my real and personal Estate be
Equally divided amongst my children To Wit John Britt, Mary Wilkerson, Hannah Longmire, Elizabeth Christian, Obed Britt, Jenny Mitchell & William Britt, my sons and daughters to them and their heirs forever
. Also I constitute and approve my beloved sons John Britt, Obed Britt, and William Britt Executors to this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this fourth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred & Eighty seven.

At a court held for Goochland County the 19th day of February 1787 this last
will & Testament of William Britt Senr decd was presented in Court by John
Britt one of the Executers therein named and being proved by the oath of John
Perkins & Arches Perkins two of the witnesses thereto was ordered to be
Recorded and on the Motion of the sd John Britt who made oath according is law
& with John Perkins & Edward Matthews his securities entered into and
acknowledged the bond in penalty of two thousand pounds -- thereof was granted
herein due Time with leave for the other Executors to come in when they shall
think --- and at one other Court Held for the said County of Goochland the
same day --- aforesaid Obed Britt one of the other Executors who entered into
& acknowledged the said bond with the Extr Jno Britt and made oath according
to laws --- thereof was granted him in due form with said Extr John Britt
leave for the other Extr to come in hereafter.
