Robert Hardin 'Bob' Wishard
LADONIA, Robert Hardin 'Bob' Wishard, 90, of Bugtussle died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Honey Grove Nursing Center. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Oak Ridge Church of Christ under the direction of Delta Funeral Home of Ladonia. Grandson Brian Fox and nephew Larry Wishard will conduct the services. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Oak Ridge Church.
'Daddy,' 'Papaw,' 'Uncle Bob,' 'Brother Bob' or 'Brother' as he was affectionately known, was born Nov. 25, 1912, in Bagby to Arthur Abram and Hazy Agnes Hulsey Wishard. He married Joyce Fink on Sept. 25, 1937, in Bonham. He influenced many people even though he lived a simple life. He was known for his generosity to people needing benevolent help. He always displayed an outstanding example of honesty, integrity and spiritual leadership. He was known as a Christian, elder, preacher, song leader, poet, cotton farmer, tractor driver, cattle raiser, milker, story teller, patriarch, hard worker, grandfather, father, brother, SNAP socializer, pillar, provider, foster parent, SNAP Citizen of the Year, ASCS committee member, school board president and member. He began farming at the age of 14, when his father died, and continued this occupation until two years prior to his death when he fell and broke his hip after a long day driving the John Deere tractor. Even though he was unable to work with his hands, he still 'supervised' the daily farm operations. For many years he was known as the community historian and was an expert on the history of Bugtussle. When he had the opportunity, he thoroughly enjoyed being able to tell numerous stories and historical events of the Bugtussle-Oak Ridge area. So many times those asking got more information than they really bargained for. His ultimate joy was found in serving the Lord. He served as an elder of the Oak Ridge Church of which he was a member for more than 75 years. Through his leadership this congregation has supported numerous works to spread the gospel both locally and abroad. He could truly say as the Apostle Paul did, 'I have fought a good fight, I had finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give at that day; and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing.' II Timothy 4:7-8.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years; his parents; an infant son, Robert Byron; one grandson, Jason Wishard; a son-in-law, Stan Norwood; a daughter-in-law, Sue Wishard; sisters, Ruby Land, Jewel Cunningham, Faye Smith, Annabelle Milton and Laura Milton.
Survivors include three daughters, Sue Fox and husband, Richard, of Mesquite, Beth Norwood of Bonham, and Kay Holmes of Windom; three sons, Ronald Wishard of Bugtussle, Joe Wishard and wife, Sylvia, of Paris and Tom Wishard and wife, Carol, of Bugtussle; a special nephew, Harvey Lynn Milton of Bugtussle; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Wishard of Honey Grove; and a sister, Johnnie Fink of Oak Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Wishard, Jim Norwood, Clint Norwood, Rick Fox, Jeremy Thompson, Scott Munger, Brent Parson, Ed Lieske and Robert Wayne Milton.
