Feb Term of Court of Pleas & Quarter Session, 1845. Thomas Critcher departed this life in December of 1844 leaving your Petitioner, Elizabeth Critcher, his widow & relict and six small children. Administration has been granted William Fleming. She requests commissioners be appointed to lay off her one year's support.
2 Feb 1845 Order for Commissioners, Jefferson Homer, Justice of the Peace, Augustus Harris, George Harris & Charles Reeks to view the crop, stock, & provisions of the estate of Thomas Critcher dec'd and allot to Elizabeth Critcher for support of her and her family for one year. If there is not sufficient provisions on hand, they are to asses such sum as would be be sufficient and report to the next Term of Court.
3 Feb 1845 William Fleming posts bond of $200 as administrator of the estate of Thomas Critcher, dec'd. Secutities, L. Gilliam & L. A. Paschall.
28 Feb 1845. Commissioners met at the house of Elizabeth Critcher to allott her years support. Find corn only, we alloted to her and family, twelve barrels and one hundred dollars to purchase all other necessities. Jeff Homer, A Harris, Geroge A. Harris, Chas. W. Reeks
28 Feb 1845. Inventory and account of Sale of Thomas Critcher, dec'd by William Fleming, Administrator. John Critcher [which John? Thomas had no son or brother John but his father was John and there were cousins] and Elizabeth Critcher purchased most of the items. Purchases also made by Alexander Fleming & John Fleming. William Longmire made purchases, as did Ann Critcher, Mary Critcher, Minty Ann Critcher, and Anderson Critcher (Anson?). Total sales were $113.46. A note at the end of the Inventory states that 12 barrels of corn were allotted by the Commissioners for the widow's support and that which was on hand, $100. Signed: William Fleming. Returned to the May Court, 1845.
