Frances T Critcher

(14 Mar 1815 - 27 Jul 1904)

Frances is not listed in most found family groups - however, there is a definite place for a female of this age in the 1820 and 1830 censuses with John Gore Critcher.

There is a Granville Co marriage bond for Thomas G. Morris to marry Fanny T. Critcher, 13 Oct 1838. Wm. C. Mallory was security for Morris.

NOTE: She is two houses away from Nathaniel Critcher and his family.

The following testimony bothers me somewhat - it seems to me that Nathaniel and Anson would have said she was his sister....
6 June 1878 Granville Co, NC, before Superior Court Clerk, James H. Hardin. Nathaniel Critcher and Elizabeth S. Cook, well known to the Clerk and citizens of Watauga Co, stated they were well acquainted with Francis T. Morris and had been before and since her marriage to Thomas Morris, deceased. She is still a widow and never remarried and is the identical person she represents herself to be and is the same as the Fanny Morris named in the copy of her marriage bond. Her husband Thomas Morris on or about the 24th day of March, 1848. Signed: E. S. Cook, Nat Critcher.

11 Apr 1879 Granville County. John W. Pettard and Anson Critcher appeared before the Superior Court and made oath that Francis T. Morris, widow of Thomas Morris was married to Thomas, some time in the month of October, 1838, under the name of Frances T. Critcher, in County of Granville. Francis & Thomas were born and raised in the immediate neighborhood, lived together as man and wife up to the time of the death of Thomas Morris. Signed: John W. Pittard and Anson Critcher
Note: in 1840, Anson Critcher and Thomas Morris were two entries apart with a Thomas Pittard on the same page.
