Granville NC Will Book 24, p.347-9
April 1894. Will of Albert J. Critcher of Granville Co, NC. He requests his estate be kept together as long as his sister Mary Grissom may live, for her support and the support of all my children. My said sister to have management and control of my estate and my minor children. Should my sister die during the minority of any of my children, then I wish my estate to be held together in like manner as a home for all my children until they attain the age of twenty one years.
After the death of Mary Grissom and my youngest child has reached the age of 21, I wish the whole of my estate to be divided in such manner that my afflicted daughter Anna Lula Critcher and my afflicted son Alexander G. Critcher shall each receive $300 in value in excess of my other children. My two afflicted children shall each receive their $300 out of my estate before any general division takes place. The residue then to be divided among all my children, share and share alike. If any children have died leaving surviving issue, then the share of the child that died shall go to his issue respectively.
As part of my land is mortgaged, I desire if possible that my sister shall from the annual income of my lands pay said mortgage & save said lands to my estate. If she finds it is not practible to save out of the income enough over and above her support and the support of my children, then said land will have to be sold for the payment. My said sister, Executorix of this my will may make such sale and convey title. It is my will that my mortgaged land, being my home place of about 92 1/2 acres be reserved and kept together until my youngest child attains the age of 21 years.
My said sister is free as she sees fit to sell any personal article or articles not useful for the convenience and support of herself and my children.
I appoint my sister Mary Grissom, the Executrix of this my last will and testament and appoint her guardian of my infant children and she shall not be required to enter into any bond. I am fully persuaded that she will manage my estate for the best interest of all my children and see that my two afflicted children receive proper care and at her death she will have arranged care for my children. Signed: A. J. (x) Critcher. Wit: John W. Hays, J. T. Sizemore.
