Earnest Bates and Miss Rutlage Married Monday
At the home of Rev. W. W. Robinson in Beat 16, Earnest Bates was married to Miss Elizabeth Rutlage on Monday of this week, the ceremony being pronounced by Rev. Robinson.
Earnest Bates is the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Bates of Providence community. The bride comes from Jasper, Ala. They will make their home near Providence.

John D. Bates, age 74, died at the home in Beat 16, at 10:10 o'clck Tuesday night. Services are to be at Providence at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, Rev. Wm. E. Robinson conducting.
Besides the wife, Mrs. Frances Robinson, surviving are six sons - Archie C., Lonza, Lawrence, Ernest, all of Clanton, C. M. & E. C. Bates, both of Denmark, SC. There are three daughter - Mrs. Beatrice Nelson of Vida, AL, Mrs. Jewell Mims of Clanton, Rte !, and Mrs. Leedie Robinson of Opelika; one brother, Tom Bates of Providence community; 27 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Sis Shaw of Wetumpka.

Mrs. Francis Elizabeth Bates, age 75, died at the home, Clanton, Rte 1, Beat 16, Tuesday afternoon at 4:05 o'clock following an illness of a few days. Services were held at Providence Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Revs. W. E. Robinson and Elba Deason; Spigener directing. Grandsons served as pallbearers,and granddaughters as flower girls.
Six sons survive - A. C. , Lonza, Earnest, Laerence Bates, all of Clanton, E. C. Bates of Denmark, SC, C. M. Bates of Sylacauga; three daughters Mrs. Beatrice Nelson of Vida, Mrs. Jewell Mims of Clanton and Mrs. Leedie Robinson of Opelika: father, Riley Robinson of Route 1; three brothers - W. W. Robinson, R. M. Robinson, and John E. Robinson, all of Clanton Routes; two sisters - Mrs. Beanie Bates and Mrs. Filey Wyatt, both of Clanton; 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
The husband, John D. Bates, died March 21, 1950. Her mother was the late Savilla Mims Robinson.

Safety engineer for S. C. Electric & Gas Co. His father - John D. Bates; his mother - Frances Robinson. Buried Denmark Cemetery on July 15th.
