Anderson Baker

(22 Nov 1834 - 3 Nov 1912)

Anderson and Elizabeth had seven children before her death. They were married by A. T. Love, JP. His wife was Mary Ann Headley.

A number of federal land patents are attached to this eldest Anderson Baker in various Ancestry family trees. At least two of these plainly say Anderson Baker Jr dated in 1887 and 1895 and are likely those of his great-nephew, son of nephew Anderson who was a son of Anderson's brother John Baker - he is the Anderson referred to in censuses as "jr". Uncle and nephew were only nine years apart in age and lived in the same county - the dates are early enough that they indicate the uncle.
The earliest of the patents is dated 10 Aug 1850 - this Anderson Baker was only 16, his nephew only about 5. So it surely is the elder Anderson's purchase. It was for 41.25 acres, the NE 1/4 of the NE 1/4, Section 13, Township 21 N, Range 14 E. Anderson was then of Autauga Co.
Two other patents issued on the same day - 15 Nov 1853 - to Anderson Baker of Autauga. Again, the nephew was likely too young. One was for 39.975 acres, SE 1/4 SW 1/4, S30, T22, R15 and the other for 40 acres, NE 1/4 NW 1/4, S31, T22, R15
Two patents were issued 1 Nov 1858 - in a different section but it would be adjacent to section 30 because of the way sections are numbered. One for 40.07 acres, NE1/4 NW1/4, S19, T22, R15 and one for 80.14 acres, the W1/2 NW1/4, S19, T22, R15.
A patent issued 1 May 1861, while Abraham Lincoln was President, could be for either Anderson except that some of it is in Section 30 where this Anderson already owns land. It was for 79.97 acres, the NE1/4 SW1/4, S30, and the NW1/4 NE1/4, S31, T22, R15

There is also a deed of sale in Autauga County from John Baker and wife Phereby to Anderson Baker. 40 acres for $50, NW1/4 SW1/4 of Section 32, T22N, R15E. The deed is torn and the date partly missing but it was likely April of 1862. Alfred Baker, John & Anderson's brother, signed as Justice of the Peace. There is a note on Ancestry (not recorded in the deed) that says this land was originally patented to James Mims, 2 Feb 1852 - if so there should also be an Autauga Co deed from Mims to John Baker.
