Mary Ann Headley

(8 Jan 1835 - 10 Sep 1884)

Mary Ann is probably the 16 year old Mary A. Headly, born in Alabama, that was living with James Mims Sr and his wife Fereba.
1850 Census. Chestnut, Autauga, AL, Hh 827
James Mims, Sen, 75, b. SC. Feraba, 63, b. NC
Mary Headley, age 16, b. AL

1850 Census: Chestnut, Autauga, AL, Hh 811
Arther T. Love, 57, b. SC (could he have been 37? - the name is at the bottom of the page and very dark and that age fits other information known)
Thomas ?W., 14, b. SC
Emily, 7, b. AL

1855 Alabama State Census.
A. T. Love: 1 white male under 21, 1 white male over 21, 2 white females. 4 total whites.

1860 Census. Chestnut Creek, Autauga, AL, Hh 166
Mary Love, 25, listed first as head of household, b. AL
Thomas, 24, b. SC
Margaret Love, 22, Elizabeth, 29, Emily, 16 - all born, AL. Are these Mary's stepchildren? Thomas and Emily were the only ones listed with their father in 1850.
1860 Mortality Census:
A. T. Love, age 48, died in March, 1860, Autauga Co, of apoplexy, death was sudden. He was widowed.

The above brings about a bit of a dilemma - which Arthur Thomas Love did Mary Ann Headley marry - father or son. It seems the father's death was recorded, but the age is wrong - he would have about 68, not 48, if the 1850 census was read properly. And his wife was already deceased in 1850 - but he would have had a living wife if he married Mary Ann. The younger Thomas would have been 24, and not be widowed - no young male Love was in the mortality census and he isn't listed as head of household in the census and seems to be very much alive. He may have had a middle initial of W. in 1850. I can only conclude that Mary Ann did marry the father, but his age is in doubt. The 1840 census gave A. T. Love's age as 30-40 which supports my conclusion.
