Sarah's death record states she died 4 Mar 1912, age 66, in Chilton Co, AL. She was buried Eiland Cemetery (Old Bethel Cemetery). Her father was Reuben Popwell, b. SC; her mother was Sallie Popwell, b. AL.

Gilbert Seqrove Eiland age 72 years, 6 months, and 4 days, applied for his Confederate Pension on 1 Feb 1917. He had enlisted in August, 1861, served as a Corporal, Company D, 1st AL Regt. He served until April of 1865 when he was paroled at the end of the war. He was never wounded or taken prisoner. He was married to his present wife, 9 Jan 1913, and she was age 61.
He listed his living children as Gadsey Vinson, 46, Farming; Sarah Howell, 44, Farming, Jake Eiland, 40, street constructions, and Ina Lansford, 26, Farming. He was living only with his wife. The Tax Asssessor desclared his property worth $177.

Gilbert Eiland had another marriage, in 1913, after the death of Sarah. His widow Ellen applied for his Confederate pension on 1 May 1917 - he had been on the Roll as #24853. Her father was Frank C. Hilyer - who had died in the war. She was born 20 Jul 1856 in Coosa Co, AL. She married G. S. Eiland in Chilton Co in 1913 and he had died 12 Feb 1917. She had also been married to Oscar Watts in 1879 or 1885 (her testimony differed).
As late as 1936, she was reapplying for the pension, at which time she was living with Alpheus Bowles in Rockford, Coosa, AL. She gave differing dates of events - said she married Eiland in Jan of 1912 and he died 12 Feb 1916 at his home. She had been married to Newton Oscar Watts, 1876, Coosa Co. Alabama marriage records show that Ellen married N. O. Watts, 4 Apr 1880.
