Individual Details
David McKim
(1795 - 15 Jan 1865)
The connection of David to William & Ann Russell is conjecture and not proved. William's will did specify a silver cane be given to his son David. There were a number of McKim families in several counties of Pennsylvania early on - including multiple Davids. One David McKim was hanged for murder in 1857, and in one place his name was seen as David Stringer McKim [and William McKim's mother's surname was Stringer]; another David was part owner of an iron furnace, Shippenville, ca 1832, etc. These must all be eliminated as possibilities.
There appears to have been more than one David McKim that served in the War of 1812

Belmont Co Ohio Probate Records
25 Jan 1865 Joseph McKim appointed administrator of estate of David McKim, deceased. (I believe this was likely his brother) Signed with him: M. D. McKimm and Isabella (X) McKim. There are several receipts of payments by Joseph McKim in early 1865. 16 Mar 1856, he filed a report of expenses and payments. He also filed the inventory.
16 Mar 1865 Isabella McKim, widow of said dec'd agrees to waive her right to administer upon the estate, in favor of either James Kelsey, Esq or James H. Drennan, and asks the Court to appoint one or the other of them.
The undersigned children agree: A. V. McKim, Dallas M. McKim, William McKim, G. W. McKim.
18 Mar 1865 James H. Drennen appointed administrator of estate of David McKim, dec'd.
15 Apr 1865. $347.24, amount in the hands of Joseph McKim ordered to pay over to James H. Drennon, Admin de bonis non of estate of David McKim.
Drennon held the estate sale at auction, 18 Apr 1865. Buyers included A. V. McKim, Dallas McKim, Wm McKim, "taken by widow". Jos. McKim (a single item), M. D. McKim (Dallas) bought the four horse wagon. Filed & recorded 20 Nov 1865.
Receipts, etc. indicate that the estate was not fully settled until the early 1870's - there may have been a lawsuit filed by Dallas McKim at some point.
Pension Certificate dated 24 June 1879. Ohio. Isabella McKim, widow of David McKim, a Private in Capt. Christopher Wigton's Pennsylvania Militia.
McKim died 15 Jan 1866. [Note: the probate files suggest he died in 1865, not 1866.] He served from 7 Sept to 10 Dec 1814.
Isabella was living in Morning View, Belmont Co. She filed 9 Mar 1878.
Residence of Soldier from 1851-1855 - Belmont Co.
Married 2 Nov 1859 in Belmont Co.
She was dropped from the Pension rolls, 13 Nov 1889 based on information she was dead.
Description of soldier at time of enlistment: 5'6", eyes & hair dark, complexion fair, age 20. He had lived in Ohio since 1817 - before that in Pennsylvania.
McKim had received two Bounty Land Warrants, one for 40 acres, the other for 120 acres which were sold after his death by his administrator.
Witnesses to her application: Joseph McKim, Joseph McKim, Jr. she signed with her mark.
George B. Hoar and John Rayl, both Morning View testified the widow had never remarried since McKim's death.
5 Oct 1855 - David McKim and appeared before the Judge in the County of Belmont. He was aged 61 next May and served as a Privated in the Company commanded by Capt Christopher Wigton in the Regiment of Rifle rangers in the Pennsylvania Militia. Had previously applied for bounty land, 26 Sep 1851, and received 40 acres which has been legally disposed of. Requests additional land under the act dated 3 Mar 1855.
In the first application for bounty land he described his service - he volunteered 1 Sep 1814 for three months and while in service he volunteered for a further term to go to Dupont ___ Wilmington, Delaware - he was discharged on or about 1 Jan 1815 and discharged at Phildelphia.
I believe there were older children. Joseph and John were also found in Belmont. Joseph seems to be a bit too old to be a son - was he David's younger brother? John could have been a son of either David or Joseph.
Joseph McKim married Jane Fippens, 30 Sep 1841, Belmont Co. This was likely his second marriage - his first wife believe to have been Nancy, surname unknown.
1850 Census. Pease Twp, Belmont Co, Ohio.
Joseph McKim, age 45, b. PA. Jane, age 27, b. PA
Caroline 8, Rebecca 5, Jane 3, Sarah 2

Joseph McKim was there in 1860, Pease Twp, Belmont Co. He was age 53, born in Pennsylvania. Wife was Jane, age 38, b. Ohio, children were Caroline 18, Rebecca 15, Martha J. 11, Joseph 8, and David A. age 3.
Also in 1860 in York Twp of Belmont Co, Ohio, was John McKim, age 38, b. Ohio, Tanner by profession. Wife Sarah, 38, b. Ohio. and Nottley age 17, Mary J. 12, Alonzo 8, Sabina 4, and two-year-old Milene. In 1850, this family appeared to have been there as John McKain age 28, Tanner. Sarah age 28, Notley age 9, Mary 3 and Alonzo 2, all born in Ohio.
1870 Census, Belmont Co, Ohio. Joseph McKim age 67, born PA with wife wife Jane 52, Rebecca 22, Martha 20, Joseph 18, and David A. age 13.
By 1880, the above Joseph McKim was still in Pease Twp, Belmont Co OH. Jane was still living, and Martha & David were still at home. Joseph Jr. was living next door with his family.
More about the possible family for David, but with reservations.. William McKim was born circa 1766, died 20 Dec 1847, buried Octorara Cemetery, Chester Co PA according to a database online. He was a War of 1812 Soldier and his wife was Ann Russell. His parents said to be David McKim, b. ca 1730 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Sarah Stringer. Nine children were listed for William and Ann - James W. McKim, b. ca 1790, Berks Co PA who married Elizabeth Buckwalter and whose descendants seem to have been documented; Rebecca, William, David, Jefferson, b. 28 Oct 1802, Joseph, George, Russell, and Sarah. David, born about 1795 and Joseph found in Belmont Co, born circa 1805, and both born in Pennsylvania, would fit right into this family, but this is as yet unproved. The will of William left only $1 to his son Joseph but he did make a bequest to John, a grandson and son of Joseph and also a bequest to George W. McKim, no relationship stated but in with other bequests to grandsons. According to a database online, Joseph did have sons John and George W. born to his first wife.
