Capt. Christopher Clark

Record of Christ Church Parish show 60 acres of land and 31 slaves in 1680. By 1705, Christopher owned land in Hanover Co VA. In 1722, he and Nicholas Meriwether patented 927 acres of land in Hanover - a tract which would make them the first settlers of Albemarle Co. The road to this land became known as "Clark's".

In 1722, Christopher Clark & Nicholas Meriwether patented 927 acres in Hanover Co. He was a tobacco planter, captain of a militia company and justice of the peace in Hanover in 1727.

Christopher Clark was a law partner of Nicolas Meriwether. He owned over 5000 acres of land in Albemarle and Louisa Counties. He cut a road at Green Spring to his land in Albemarle which was known as "Clark's Tract".

He was one of the first Justices of Louisa County. He became a Quaker late in life and in 1749 was one of the Overseers of the Meeting near Sugar Loaf Mountain.

His will was written 14 Aug 1741 and probated in Louisa Co on 28 May 1754. Named in the will was son Edward, dau Agnes Johnson, Rachel Moorman, Sarah Lynch, Elizabeth Anthony, and sons, Micajah and Bowling, wife Penelope.

To son Edward, gun and all his wearing clothes and all else he is possessed of that was ever mine
To daughter Agnes Johnson, one Negro woman and her increase, etc.
To daughter Rachel Moorman, 400 acres in Hanover near Capt. Thomas Dancey, one Negro woman, etc.
To daughter Sarah Lynch, one Negro boy, etc.
To son Micajah, 500 acres in Hanover whereon I now live, one Negro boy, working tools, etc.
To son Bowling, 400 acres in Hanover Co, on the NW side joining land of Thomas Carr, 2 young Negroes named Nance & Robin, horse Spret, one gun, feather bed & furniture, 2 cows & calves, trooping arms, my great Bible and all my law books
To daughter Elizabeth Anthony, 400 acres in Goochland on Footer Creek, near the south forks of James River, 2 young Negroes named Moll & Jenny, cows & calves, feather-bed & furniture
All the rest to my loving wife.
Granddaughter Penelope Clark, at the death of her grandmother, is to be paid 40£ if so much be remaining. Rest to be equally divided between my children, but not to be appraised.

According to Linda Starr, Christopher's loving son Micajah received 500 acres whereon Christopher was living. Edward, eldest son and heir-at-law of Christopher deeded the 500 acres to Micajah.
