Jonathan P. ADAMSON

Until Jonathan was 45 years old, he lived on his native farm in Wayne Co IN. He sold that farm about 1 May 1865 and moved to Muncie, Delaware Co and engaged in mercantile, first in the grocery business with his nephew B. R. Adamson as a partner. Later he changed to dry goods with Mr. Hammer as a partner. Other partners were James N. Cropper and Riley Jones. Jonathan sold out two weeks before his death. In 1862 he was baptized and united with the church in Jacksonburg, Wayne Co and after moving to Muncie, he and his wife helped organized the First Christian Church in which he was an elder. For 9 years he was a justice of the peace in Wayne Co. Jonathan and Emily had no issue, although they reared two girls and one boy - Lucinda Hammer, John Adamson, a nephew who fell in the defense of the Union, and Nettie Adamson.

Perry Twp in Wayne Co IN in the 1850 Census. His mother lived with Jonathan and wife Emily and Lucinda Hammer, age 7 [a niece of Emily's].

4 Jul 1853. Marriage license for Thomas Swain to marry Belinda Underhill (dau of Jonathan's sister, Keziah). Thomas and Belinda were married on the 7th day of July, 1853, by Jonathan P.Adamson, Justice of the Peace.

Still in Perry Twp in 1860. Jonathan P. Adamson, age 40. Emaily age 37. Lucin Macey, age 78, b. VA and a widow, lived with them.

Jonathan P. Adamson was a witness to the Declaration for Invalid Army Pension filed by his great-nephew Edom Adamson, 3 Jan 1880.

....son of Jonathan and Ruth (Williams) Adamson, born near Economy, Wayne Co, IN on 16 Dec 1818 and until 45 years old lived on his native farm
....disposed of his eighty acre farm in Wayne ...May 1 854, or three weeks after the surrendaer of Gen. R. E. Lee, Mr. Adamson came to Muncie ...engaged in mercantile trade, going first into the grocery business, having for his partner his nephew, B. R. Adamson; he then changed to the dry goods trade, with Mr. Hammer for his partner
....1862 that he was baptized ...In that year he united with the church in Jacksonburg, Wayne Co, and on coming to Muncie, he and wife became prime movers in organizing the First Christian Church, in which he at once became an elder and faithfully filled the position until the end.
....nine years he filled the office of justice of the peace in Wayne County.
...November 22, 1838, Mr. Adamson was most happily united in marriage to his now venerable life companion, Emily Macy, daughter of Reuben and Lucinda (Petty) Macy... native of Wayne County and born in 1822
....no children born to their union but they reared to useful maturity two girls and one boy, viz: Lucinda Hammer (a niece of Mrs. Adamson) now the wife of Thomas McCulloch, a farmer of Delaware Co; John Adamson, a nephew, who fell in the defense of the Unions, and lastly, they adopted Nettie Adamson, at the age of three years, whom they educated in the best institutions of learning in the city and who was married to William Fadely of Muncie.

Muncie Loses a Prominent Citizen
Muncie, Jun 17. This morning Jonathan P. Adamson died at his home in this city aged seventry-two. Mr. Adamson was one of this county's oldest citizens, and was for a number of years prominent in the mercantile business, being at one time a wholesale grocer. He was also one of the founders of the Christian Church here.

Funeral of Uncle Jonathan Adamson
This afternoon at 2 o'clock the relatives and friends of Uncle Jonathan P. Adamson assembled at the First Christian Church on West Jackson street, to pay their last tribute to all that remained on earth of their once dear relative and friend. Services were conducted by Dr.George W. Thompson, assisted by Elder, of Union City, and Elder Parson, Indianapolis, Ind., after which he was laid to rest in the city of the dead.

Mrs. Nettie Fadely Dies at Home Here
Mrs. Nettie Fadely, 71, wife of William Fadely, died at 7:45 o'clock last night at the family home, 902 wheeling Ave, after an extended illness. she was a lifelong resident of Muncie, the daughter of the late Mr. Mrs. Jonathan P. Adamson, pioneer Delaware County residents. Mrs. Fadely was a member of Riverside U.B. Church and of the Women's Bible Class and Women's Missionary Association of the church.
Surviving are the husband; two sons, Claude M. & Williams K. Fadely both of Muncie; two grandchildren, Mrs. Linis Mallett of San Jose, Cal., and James William Fadely, U.S.Army, stationed at Camp Fort Ord, Cal., and a great grandchild.
