Hannah Adamson
(15 Sep 1810 - 26 Dec 1878)
The Pike Family History book states that Hannah's married name was Ratliff. The Ratcliff research say that Jesse Ratcliff, son of Edom, married Hannah Adamson.
Jesse Ratcliff, brother to Joel who married Hannah's sister Rachel, is said to have married a Hannah Adamson, 15 Jun 1830, Highland Co Ohio. Some databases online have placed this Hannah in Ohio as the daughter of Jonathan. Seems highly unlikely that a lady named Hannah Adamson would be married in two different states on such similar days, two months apart, but that seems to be the case they are attempting to make.
Hannah's father Jonathan was living in Wayne Co IN as early as 1820 so it seems improbable she would be getting married in Ohio, but apparently she did.
The Indiana marriage database does have a marriage of Hannah Adamson to Josiah Pugh on 15 Aug 1830, in Wayne County. They received license on April 12. Ohio Marriages on FamilySearch had the marriage of Jesse Ratcliff on 15 Jun 1830, Highland, Ohio, but to Hannah "Anderson". Census records in the coming years reveal that both Jesse Ratcliff and Josiah Pugh had wives named Hannah and families with those wives.
The Pughs lived in Wabash Co, IN in 1850 and 1860. According to the 1850 census, Hannah was born about 1815 in Tennessee. Their children have rather atypical names for the Adamson family - Irvin, Moses, Sarah, Rachel, Joana, John C., Samul H., Alexander M., Hannah and Josiah.
The Ratcliffs lived in Clinton & Howard Co. IN in those same years. In 1850, Hannah was age 40, b. TN, which agrees with the records of the birth of Jonathan's daughter Hannah. Jesse & Hannah named their children Rachel (Jesse's mother's name), Jonathan A. (for Hannah's father - was he Jonathan Adamson Ratcliff?), Sarah Jane, Edom A. (Jesse's father's name), Thomas A. and Albert.
There is another clue, however, because the will of Hannah's father, Jonathan Adamson, dated 3 March 1831, names his daughter Hannah Ratliff. That fact, coupled with the names of Jesse & Hannah's children, would seem to guarantee that Hannah, daughter of Jonathan, did marry Jesse Ratcliff in Ohio. That leaves us with - who were the parents of Hannah Adamson who married Josias Pugh?
