By 1870, the widow Margaret Wishard had married James L. Thompson. She was with him in that census along with her five youngest Wishard children. They were not listed with a separate surname.

James L. Thompson, age 55, b. Maryland. Margaret, age 46, b. KY. William 15, John 13, Henry 10, Sarah J. 8 and George 5, all born in Iowa. Rosa McKee age 29, b. Ohio lived with the family; she was teaching school. Also listed were Marcus H. Thompson age 13, b. Minnesota and Charles W. Thompson age 15, b. Ohio - probably sons of James by a previous wife.

In 1880, with their mother deceased, the children were scattered. I never found John O. in the 1880 census but did manage to locate William, Henry, Sarah & George.
