A copy of this letter was found in the pension file of John's father. To John O. Wishard, Bloomfield, Iowa. Notice of Issue, Department of the Interior, Pension Office:
Sir, You are hereby notified that Certificate #239502 for Pension has this day been issued in favor of the minor children of William Wishard, John O., Claimant and that the pension is payable by the Pension AGent at DesMoines who will also pay to A. H. Hill of Bloomfield, Iowa, Attorney fee of $25 or any other sum previously paid.
Rate of pension $8 per from Jan 21 1886 and $2 per month from Jul 25 1866 addl for each child. Very Respectfully, John C. Black, Commissioner
[Note: the pension paid only until each child reached age 16. The document for all five of the children phrases the payment differently. John was to receive $8 per month beginning 21 Jan 1866 with $2 per month additional beginning 25 Jul 1866 and up to Mar 1, 1873 in John's case. The above dates were copied from the original document with the erroneous date of Jan 21 1886.]

John was Administrator of his brother George's estate. George had not cashed his pension voucher before his untimely death which caused considerably difficulty. See George's notes for details.

John O. Wishard was also guardian of Flora D. Wishard, youngest daughter of his brother Abraham, and helped her apply for her minor's benefits, after the death of her mother and father. His application for Flora, 30 Dec 1893, stated he was then age 37 and she was born 9 May 1880.

John Owen Wishard of Cleveland Twp, Bloomfield, Iowa, died 17 May 1929 of abscess of the prostate and acute nephritis. He was married to Clara Wishard. Born in Davis Co, Iowa, 2 Ma4 1857, he was a farmer. Father was Wm Wishard; mother, Margaret Breeding. Fred Wishard of Ottumwa, Iowa, was the informant. Buried May 19th, Bloomfield.
