Individual Details
Stephen Dexter
(15 Apr 1689 - 27 Dec 1758)
Stephen Dexter died intestate in 1758, his estate descending to the eldest son of his eldest son, deceased, under the laws of primogeniture. That grandson died without issue and the estate went to his brother, who also died without issue in 1825. The settlement of the estate at that time involved a lawsuit which revealed numerous cousins and first cousins who were entitled to share in the estate.
The Dexter Genealogy related that Stephen lived on the homestead of his father, north of the old North Burying Ground, on the east side of the Pawtucket Turnpike. He died of an apoplectic fit [stroke] white salting beef in his cellar. Said to have been a member of the state Assembly in the year 1727.
