8 Jan 1711. John Dexter, yet in his minority asked for Capt. Simon Smith as Guardian of his affairs received from his deceased father, Major John Dexter.
Last Will & Testament dated 26 Jun 1716. Names honored Mother, Allis Dexter. Sisters: Mary, Abigail, Sarah, Phebe, Anne, Allis. Brothers: Stephen, James. William Crawford Executor. Capt. Joseph Southworth was one of the Witnesses and he had received the will; however, he is ill with Small pox so three other gentleman testify to his authenticity. Robert Burnett, mate of the Sloop where Capt John Dexter died was also a witness and testified. Recorded 6 Aug 1716.
Inventory lists the Estate of Capt John Dexter, Mariner. He had a cargo of Molasses. Items include a Quadrant, a guaging rod, a pair of Pistols, a book "The English Pilatt". Also owned two Negro slaves, a woman and a boy.
Records also refer to William Crawford as Capt William Crawford.
28 Feb 1720. Mr. Stephen Dexter offered to Maj. William Crawford that if he would deliver up the Lands belonging to his brother Capt John Dexter then he the said Stephen Dexter would pay the Legacies & debts due for said Estate.
