Death
Walter Cave, Rotan, DiesWalter Cave, 82, Rotan rancher and pioneer rancher and pioneer cowboy died at 4 am Tuesday morning in Callon Hospital in Rotan, He had been seriously ill for three weeks.
Mr Cave moved to the Rotan area in 1877 with his parents, when he was only 5. He began his schooling in 1882 when he was 10, but school was broken up for two years by disease and by that time he was old enough to go to work.
On May 5, 1897 Mr Cave married Anna Simmons of Roby. They moved to land he had purchased in the Hobbs community of Fisher County. He started with four section ad finally had eight section which he fenced.
Mrs Cave died in 1904 on Dec 9 1906 Mr Cave married Lavonia Shanks of Hobbs community, who survived him. The Caves lived in that are until moving to their place west of Rotan in 1946. Survivors include five sons, Winifred of Jayton; M L Rotan; J S, J C and Dale all of the Hobbs community: one daughter Mrs Earl Boyer, Rotan; three brother, Emmett of Rotan, Mark, Stonewall county rancher, and Jim of Roby; one sister Mrs. W.W. Barrpm of San Angelo; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
