WILLIAM ALLEN COREY

(1837 - 27 Mar 1882)

An obituary for him reads, "The Reverend W. A, Corey entered into rest on March 28, 1882. He was born in New Canaan May 1835. When about 20 he began preaching the gospel, and the people at once received his message. He was called to ordination by the Second Springfield Church, and was for about 20 years pastor of the Springfield and accepted that of Sussex. In March 1880 he accepted the pastorate of the Portland Saint John Church. Mr. Corey married Annabel Davis, d/o Walter Davis of Springfield in May 1872. He leaves three little daughters; one had passed on to a better world before him. The disease of which Mr. Corey died was disease of the lungs. The funeral will take place in Springfield."

However, a note in D. F. Johnson's complication says that "this account of life differs from the account in The daily Telegraph." These compilers were unable to compare the other version. However, the version given above accords with the known facts of William's life.

His widow married, second, Charles Hatfield and lived at 44 Exmouth St. Saint John NB. Shortly after her second marriage a second of William's four children was to die.
