George Daniel Query

Nickname:<NICK> Daniel Also Known As:<_AKA> Georg Daniel Quier in BIOGRAPHY: Private Daniel Quary, 6th class, appears on the muster r oll of the Middle Battal ion of the Montgomery County, Militia, 2nd Co mpany, commanded by Colonel Archibald Orme on July 15, 1780. This mil itia company was ordered to Georgetown in June 1781 to meet a threat b y Lord Cornwallis' forces, who were in northern Virginia, plundering a nd burning at will. When the threat soon passed, the militia troops w ere discharged. According to "Revolutionary Patriots of Montgomery Co unty, Maryland. 1776-1783" by Henry Peden, Daniel Quiry acted in the r ole of a commissary (cook) in 1781. Part of his duties were to gathe r supplies of wheat , probably for baking bread. He did this repeatedl y, as there are about 40 receipts written by Daniel "Quiry" to variou s people in Maryland for wheat that bear dates ranging from March 3, 1 781 to June 6, 1783. The 1783 tax list of Montgomery County, Marylan d lists Daniel Quary, of Sugarland and Upper Potomac Hund red. When D aniel's father died, he left u of his 223-acre farm and gristmill to h im, with the provision that it be shared and shared alike, with his br other Henry. Daniel is listed in the census records of Montgomery Cou nty, Maryland in 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830. He operated his fat her's mill. He did not own any slaves. On March 31, 1837, Solomon, G eorge and David Quary, Elizabeth Young, Sarah Wood and husband John, H annah Spohn and husband David and Rebecca Nichols, the children of Da niel Quary, "late of Montgomery County", filed to represent their brot her John Quary, labeled a "lunatic", in the sale of the property (Libe r BS4 page 12 Judgement Record (120 1837). On July 19, 1837, the sibl ings took John Query to court, having William O. Chappelle appointed t rustee over the estate, authorizing him to sell the land. The 223-acr e farm of Daniel Query, Rockville, Maryland, was sold to Samuel West o n January 20, 1840 for $55 9.18, or $2.50 per acre.
