Individual Details

Henry STEVENS

(22 Apr 1798 - Aft 1855)

It is not clear as to the number of marriages Henry had. It is clear that he at least married Hannah in 1823, Caroline in 1847 and Catherine in 1849. There may be other wives but since we know the children listed in the 1850 census are not Caroline's or Catherine's and since there is no source yet for Hannah's death, this document will list the children in the 1850 census as Hannah's. In addition to other wives there may be other children.
One researcher [unsourced]: "By 1820 Henry had moved from Vermont to upstate New York near the Canadian border, where he was a lumberman near French Mills. Before 1833 he moved to Bloomville, Seneca County, Ohio. After 1843 and before 1847 he moved to McHenry County, Illinois."
In the 1850 Census (Dwelling 152 Family 164) Henry and his family are living in Chemung, McHenry County and also living with them is six year old Clarissa Cole.
In the 1855 Illinois Census, Henry (M50-60), Catherine (F40-50), Abigail (F10-20), and Henry, Jr. (M10-20) are living in Chemung.
