Henry Jr STEVENS

In the 1860 Census, Henry is living with his brother Hiram in Chemung, McHenry County, Illinois indexed under the surname Severns, family 2109, dwelling 2178.
Henry enlisted as a Private in the Civil War at Shumway, Effingham County, Illinois. He entered the service on 28 September 1861 at Chemung with Company F, 45th Illinois Infantry for a period of three years but served until 1865. On 6 January 1894 Rachel Dillon is issued a Civil War Veteran's Widow pension.
The 1870 Wausau, Marathon County, Wisconsin census, Henry is living with his sister Abigail and her husband Peter McKellar, and is working in a sawmill.
In the 1880 Census he is living in Fairview, Lincoln, Dakota Territory (South Dakota) with wife Rachel (see notes under Eliakum Stevens) and two children, Francis E., 3, and Lily May, 1. Francis E. is Elmer, whose father is Eliakim, Henry's brother.
Rachel marries Thomas Dillon about 1885 [Note: this is from 1900 Census but marriage date was probably 1886 or later based on documents on the death of Henry]. Neither Henry, Rachel, Elmer, or Lily; or surname Dillon are in the Dakota Territory or Nebraska 1885 Census reports.

Death
On the night of 31 January 1886, Henry was shot and killed by neighbor Henry Paulson over a dispute with Henry's step-son and Paulson in Valentine. (Nebraska Supreme Court, Volume 25, Page 344 and The Omaha Daily Bee, Thursday, 11 February 1886).
