Individual Details
Rachael (Rachel) Emily SMITH
(9 Jan 1837 - Apr 1925)
She is listed in the Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956, Sheet 22, Page 371. It indicates: Name: Rachel Emily Dillon; Age: 74; Sex: F; Marriage Status: Widowed; Occupation: None; Reads; Writes; Nationality: Canadian; Race: Scotch; Last Residence: Loverna, [can't tell if its Manitoba or Saskatchewan]; Nearest Relative: Loverna, Father Charles E.; Final Destination: Merrill, Wisconsin.
Bonnie Palmer records that her grandmother indicated that Rachael left Eliakum for one of his brothers. Research indicates that this brother is Henry. A divorce record has not been located. See Eliakum notes on his publication of Rachael leaving him.
On 6 January 1894, Rachel Dillon is issued a Civil War Veterans pension in the name of Henry Stevens.
The 1900 Census the Dillons are in Valentine, Cherry County, Nebraska. It indicates she was born Jan 1838, immigrated 1840, 7 children, 4 surviving. The number of children is confusing as it appears at this time she had 14 children of which eleven are surviving (Note: the death dates of five of those children have not been determined.)
On the 1920 Census, she is listed as widow Rachel Dillon, age 80, birth place as Canada, mother tongue as Irish, and that she immigrated in 1855(9) and is living with her widowed daughter Mary Degner in Merrill, Lincoln County, Wisconsin.
