Norris W. Thompson, 74 - Nov. 2, 1928 - Nov. 22, 2002
Norris W. Thompson of New Richmond died Friday, Nov. 22 at the St. Croix Health Center. He was born in Alden Township Nov. 2, 1928 to Sam and Tilda (Walby) Thompson.
Norris was one of 12 children. He grew up in the Horse Creek area and attended local schools. Norris served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in West Virginia.
He married Marilyn Larson Jan. 18, 1951 in Stillwater, Minn. Norris was a millwright at Doboy until a series of strokes forced him to retire. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, gardening and dancing. He was a great fan of polka music and always had a polka station blaring from his radio. He also enjoyed traveling to Branson, Mo. with his wife Marilyn.
Norris was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Dale, Gene, Lyle and Daryle; and one sister, Fern Wells.
He is survived by two sons, Ron (Sherry) Thompson and Randy Thompson; three grandsons, Ryan B. Thompson of Falls City, Neb., Scott, and Jason Thompson, both of New Richmond; two brothers, Dean (Mary) Thompson of Star Prairie and Wayne (Idell) Thompson of Star Prairie; four sisters, Mae (Dale) Larson of Star Prairie, Betty (Paul) Singerhouse of Hudson, June Field of New Richmond, and Sue (Gary) Peterson of Star Prairie.
Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 25 at the Beebe Mortuary. Funeral services were Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in New Richmond with Rev. David Halaas officiating. Music was provided by Mary Ann Hanson.
Active casketbearers were Bill Wells, Kevin Peterson, Michael Kiekhofer, Mike Olson, Gary Torkelson, and Mike Emerson.
Honorary casketbearers were April Mara, Lisa Kloetzke, and Audrey Siebel. The New Richmond American Legion Post No. 80 provided military honors. Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.
Beebe Mortuary assisted with arrangements.
