New Richmond News, Online, Thursday, March 25, 2004 Dean Merle Thompson, 70 Jan. 29, 1934 - March 22, 2004 Dean Merle Thompson was born Jan. 29, 1934 in Alden Township Polk County to Sam and Tilda (Walby) Thompson.
He was baptized and confirmed at West Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended school at the Pine Lake Area School. On Nov. 29, 1956 he married Mary Johnson. They moved to Star Prairie in 1976. Dean worked for Domain, Inc. from 1952 until he retired in December of 1985.
Dean passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones at 9 a.m. Monday, March 22.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Tilda; his stepfather Dal Foss; one sister, Fern Wells; and five brothers, Dale, Gene, Lyle, Norris and Daryl.
He is survived by Mary, his beloved life partner and best friend, and his cat Toots; brother Wayne (Idell) Thompson of Star Prairie; sisters, June (the late Curt) Field of New Richmond, Sue (Gary) Peterson of New Richmond, Betty (Dick) Singerhouse of New Richmond and Mae (Dale) Larson of Star Prairie; sister-in-law Diane (the late Lyle) Thompson; many relatives and friends.
Dean was like a father and grandfather to many. He was always willing to give rather than receive. He touched so many lives, to know him was to love him. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, flowers, watching birds, playing cards, baking and canning. Most of all he loved spending time with the kids. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 26 at West Immanuel Lutheran Church with visitation starting at 12 noon.
Pallbearers will be Colleen Bottolfson, Kathryn Bottolfson, Diana Connelly, Kristin Green, Shelly Larson, Heather Thompson, Jessica Thompson and Christy Wells.
Honorary pallbearers will be Orlo Bottolfson, Dennis Field, Dale Larson, Duane Luehman, Gordon Nelson, Gary Peterson, Dick Singerhouse, and John Sutliff.
