Eugene Kees Dies After Week's Illness
The Hudson community was deeply shocked last Saturday morning when it learned of the death of Eugene Kees, the 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kees, who succumbed after only a week's illness with influenza and lobar pneumonia.
Eugene was one of the most popular members of the senior class at the Hudson high school and was to be gradutated at the end of the present school year. At school he took a prominent part in school activities and was a member of the high school band. A week ago last Saturday he accompanied a group of high school students to the commercial contest held at New Richmond. While there he was taken sick. He was in serious condition when he returned to his home and despite persistent medical efforts, he gradually became worse. Death came last Saturday morning.
Eugene was born in Hudson on October 8, 1910, and his entire life had been spent in this community. He was a devout member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and was always willing to take part in church and religious activities.
Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock, Monday morning, at the St. Patrick's church here, Rev. Father Peter Rice officiating at the Requiem High Mass. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery here. The entire senior class of the local high school attended the services. The funeral was one of the largest held here in some time and indicated the high esteem in which Eugene was held by his school mates and friends.
Eugene was a member of the Hudson headquarters company and a firing squad was present at the burial rites to pay the final military honors.
Eugene is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kees, and three brothers, John, Francis and Thomas.
