Francis E. (Fran) Kees, 71, of Siren, and formerly of Hudson, died Sunday, February 5, at Hudson Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1912 in Hudson, the son of Richard and Anne (Lombard) Kees.
He was a grandson of Andrew and Jane (Steets) Kees and the great grandson of William and Mary (Morrison) Steets, who were among the very earliest settlers in what is now the city of Hudson.
Kees attended high school in Hudson and was married January 29, 1938, in St. Paul, to Florence Johnson.
In his younger years, Kees was a prominent and popular amateur boxer in this area. Up until 1961, Kees and his family lived in Hudson. From 1961 to 1968 they resided in St. Paul Park. Since 1968 they have lived in Siren though they spent winters in Arizona.
Surviving are his wife, Florence; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Shelby) Swanson of Centuria and Mrs. Richard (Nanette) Sobaski of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; a brother, Thomas Kees of 1219 First St., and two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Eugene and John.
Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
