Thomas W. (Tom) Kees, 82, a lifelong Hudson resident, died early Tuesday
morning, Jan. 7, at Hudson Medical Center, where he had been taken by ambulance
late Monday night.
Funeral serrvices will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 10, at Bethel Lutheran
Church in Hudson. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 9, from 4-6 p.m. at
O'Connell's Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in Willow River Cemetery.

Thomas W. Kees, 82, a longtime Hudson resident, died early Tuesday morning,
Jan. 7, in the emergency room of Hudson Medical Center, where he had been taken
earlier by ambulance.
He was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Hudson, the son of Richard and Anne (Lombard)
Kees. He attended school in Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School in
1933.
From 1934-37 he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was first
located at West Allis near Milwaukee, which enabled him to enroll in Milwaukee
Tech in the business administration and typing courses. He was then placed in
the miliaty administration offices of the CCC. He acted in the capacity of
assistant company clerk, and in the spring of 1935 was transferred to Camp
Devil's Lake at the company clerk until the end of his 38-month career with the
CCC.
In 1937, he took a sales position with Tire Cap Inc., a distributor of
General Tires. While working as a sales representative, he enrolled in a
two-year course in senior accounting at LaSalle Extension University and
received senior accounting certification in March 1940. He then joined Tire
Cap Inc., where he was the office and sales manager.
He had these positions until he was inducted in the U.S. military, where
he served from 1942-46, with 30 months of his service overseas in Asiatic
Pacific, New Guinea andthe Archipelago. He received two bronze stars for his
service. Due to injuries and malaria, he was transferred to the Far East Aire
Forces in New Guinea, where he was promoted to staff sergeant in charge of
administration for the command and an administrative advisor to the commanding
officers of the command. He received the Liberation Medal of the Philippines
and returned home Dec. 31, 1946.
He then gained employment at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul, retiring from
there in January 1979.
On May 7, 1949, he was married to Helen L. Engstrom in Stillwater, Minn.
She preceded him in death May 5, 1995. Also preceeding him in death were his
parents and three brothers, John, Eugene and Francis.
He enjoyed baseball and played for various area teams and with an
independent league out of Madison. He prepared his many friends' income taxes
for free. He enjoyed visiting with friends and was known for his keen mind and
interesting conversation.
Surviving are two nieces, Nanette (Richard) Sobaski of Inver Grove
Heights, Minn., and Shelby (Dale) Swanson of Centuria.
Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 10, at Bethel Lutheran Church in
Hudson, with the Rev. Dennis Nelson officiating.
Interment was in Willow River Cemetery. Casketbearers were Roger Trapp,
Gordon Hultgren, Ray Wagoner, Dag Selander, Jason Tritt and William and Tom
Engstrom.
Memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church to fundtheir Sunday
worship service broadcasts on the radio.
